All towns of any size have areas like this, usually stretched along a main road, with car dealers, superstores and retail parks. In this case the land was previously part of the vast GEC works, once a major employer in the town. On the immediate left is a Peugeot dealer and, beyond that, Elliot's Field retail park which includes a branch of Sofology. Turning right at the traffic lights leads into the Junction 1 retail park and there is a large Tesco store beyond that.
