This cottage has a footpath entering its garden, a rare situation I think. I would expect the path to have been re-routed to the field corner and a stile installed maybe. The lady who lives here was busy in the garden and outhouses and I am sure she can't really welcome strangers stepping into her plot and walking past windows and doors at all times of the day....she didn't speak and bustled off, avoiding yet another one of those pointless, awkward and repetitive conversations I am sure...."Hello, nice day!" etc The tolerance of people is quite remarkable and never ceases to restore my faith in human nature.
