The stone is a modern interpretation of the smashed 'To and From' Huddersfield milestone that was located 50 yards northwards. The original 'To and From' stones were erected by the Town Watch Committee in the late 1800's, as Hansom Cab Fare-stages, at ½ mile intervals. The stone was carved by sculptor Dave Bradbury from the Victorian gate pillar in 2014. The inscription reads: 392 : FROM : HUDDERSFIELD : 1½ : MILES Milestone Society National ID: YW_XHUD01
