Looking north-west towards Sandwell and Wolverhampton, this is the Birmingham Canal Navigations New Main Line, engineered by Thomas Telford and mostly completed 1824-1827. The railway bridge carries the line between Smethwick Rolfe Street and Birmingham New Street stations on the Rugby-Birmingham-Stafford Line.
