Situated just inside the park off Firth Park Road, this post has now been fully painted and set against a backing stone for safety. Its original site was on the A6135 at Sheffield Lane Top (SK 3635 9185) It is one of two styles on the Wakefield to Sheffield Turnpike through Barnsley first enacted in 1758 but may date from the early 19C. The 5 posts still standing between Barnsley and Sheffield have a London mileage. The 2 remaining posts north of Barnsley have a simpler top and no distance to London.
