Two Belliss and Morcom V type inverted vertical compound (enclosed) steam engines driving alternators and operating 24/7 until 2006. They have now been removed and the works has gone. This was possibly the last regularly working reciprocating steam power house in the UK. Part of one of the boilers is seen in the left background. In the 1980s and 1990s there were still several of this type of engine in situ and a few still running 'in anger' but I am not aware of any for sure now. It is rumoured that a small modern German engine may be running in a 'door factory' in the north of England. From Brian Hillsdon: - In foreground, #1 B&M 9106/1937 19+27x12 came 2nd hand 1973. Behind #2 9430/1937 17+25.5x12 also came here in 1973 from Palmer Mann, Sandbach.
