Maple No. 1 Mill, Groby Street, Hathershaw

This is No. 1 mill with its engine house having the tall arched window. This once contained a George Saxon inverted vertical triple expansion engine of 1000 horsepower and driving the mill by ropes from its 22' flywheel. On the left are the boarded up windows of the No. 2 Mill. No. 2 was largely destroyed by fire in 2009 and No. 1 in 2016. The site has been largely cleared although the chimney may still be standing.
