Post Box, The Steadings, Old Hartley

This wall post box dates from the reign of King George V (1910-1936) and can be distinguished from post boxes dating from the reign of King George VI (1936-1952) by the more simple cipher and the lack of the Roman Numeral V. It is set into the boundary wall of the housing development known as The Steadings. When the 1920 revision of the Six-Inch Ordnance Survey map of the area was published in 1924 the post box was shown in this position which, at that time, was the boundary wall of Hartley East Farm.
