In front to the left is the red brick pitched roof building of what was probably the last steam engine to be installed in a Preston mill - a 1921 Pollit & Wigzell horizontal cross compound of 650 horsepower. The red brick block dates from a rebuilding in the early 1900s. This part of the site is now a new housing development. The engine of 1921 was works No. 901 with Corliss valve cylinders of 18" & 36" x 48". The flywheel drove by 14 cotton ropes. The engine ran at 81 revolutions per minute on steam at 160 pounds per square inch. The jet condenser and air pump were to the rear of the low pressure cylinder.
