Inlet sluice, Balne Beck

Wrenthorpe and Alverthorpe meadows are a local nature reserve and form part of a flood reduction scheme. When it rains heavily this sluice restricts the flow on Balne Beck, so that these meadows flood, rather than the Westgate End area of Wakefield city centre.
