The Merry Monk public house is the former Red Lion, renamed in 1992. Originally three cottages, now much altered, timber framed and rendered. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1310439 Isleham is a rural fenland village situated about 6 miles north of Newmarket and some 7 miles south east of Ely. The village is renowned for the Isleham Hoard of more than 6500 pieces of bronze from the late Bronze Age. The priory of St Margaret of Antioch was founded in the village circa 1090.
