All very John of Gaunt or Ghent. His arms appear surmounting the sign He appears on horseback trotting about the countryside. John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster (1340 - 1399) was an English prince, military leader, and statesman. He was the third of the five sons of King Edward III of England who survived to adulthood. Due to his royal origin, advantageous marriages, and some generous land grants, Gaunt was one of the richest men of his era, and was an influential figure. He was the Lord of the Manor of Aylsham after being gifted it by his father. He was the father of Henry IV (1399 to 1413). Below the sign are two shields, on the left the WI who sponsored the sign and hundreds more besides, and on the right St Michael, in recognition of the church. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6705248
