Looking south along Deansgate (A56) at half-past four on a Monday afternoon with less than three weeks to go before Christmas. In "normal" times this road would be very busy, especially at this time of year. However, this year has been abnormal. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the city council made this (and several other roads in the city centre) a pedestrian-only area so that shoppers could observe "social distancing" and would not have to crowd onto the pavements. Further National and local "lockdown" restrictions imposed by HM Government in November and December (Manchester is in Tier 3 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_pandemic_in_the_United_Kingdom ) have reduced visitors even more, so that in the above photo, Deansgate is almost deserted.
