This was the Severn Valley line of the Great Western Railway which used to run from Shrewsbury to Bridgnorth via Buildwas and on to Bewdley, from where it connected to Birmingham and Wolverhampton via Kidderminster and to Worcester via Stourport and Droitwich. The section between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster has been reopened as a preserved railway. A separate branch, the Much Wenlock and Severn Junction railway, ran to Wenlock.
