In Yorkshire we would call this narrow urban path a ginnel. This is in the ceremonial county of Cheshire so I'm not sure what the term would be. Although now named Hallam Mill, this was built as Heaviley Mill in 1860 for Ephraim Hallam. The main mill is 5 storeys built in brick and has a truncated octagonal chimney. It was a spinning mill with 31,000 spindles in 1897. I couldn't see an external engine house and this suggests it may have been gear driven with an internal engine. The mill is now in multiple occupancy.
