A complex of former cotton mills dating from 1845 and now in multiple occupancy. This west range is dated 1878 and Alan Murray-Rust suggests it was used for warehouse and workshops. However, as this view shows it includes a very substantial chimney base and the projecting building on the left is suggestive of a boiler house. Therefore it probably had its own power source, suggesting more than a passive function. the aerial view shows a section of the building without a roof by the chimney and I wonder if this was an internal engine house.
