I had thought at first that this was probably an old sheepfold but examination of the 1st edition OS map published in 1866 shows it was part of a property called Cragend. The OS Name Book for Thockrington parish describes Cragend as "a small Cottage with outhouses & garden attached on the North Heugh farm" http://namebooks.org.uk/browse/main/?OSref=420&Page=33 It would be nice to think that this enclosure was the garden of that cottage.
