WWII pillbox near the River Churnet at Rocester

The pillbox was constructed in 1940 as part of the Western Command Stop Line no. 5 which was intended for the defence of Derby. It ran from Tamworth to Burton upon Trent and then via the River Dove to Ashbourne. The concept of the stop line defence was soon abandoned as likely to be ineffective against a Panzer tank division.
