Nearly 50 years on in 2016 the scene was little changed https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4998112 . The bus is Newport Corporation no.104, a Bristol RE with ECW body, new in 1967. Newport was one of the early purchasers of Bristol buses following the relaxation of the policy which restricted their sale to nationalised operators.
