St James’ Church was consecrated by the Bishop of Manchester, Dr Fraser, on June 8th 1874. Although it was intended that eventually, the Church would have a Tower; this feature was not included in the original building plans on account of the additional cost involved. The main structure, without Tower, was completed in 1874.
