Scotswood Railway Bridge

The double track wrought iron bridge opened in 1871 was the 4th on the site, the first being as early as 1839. The bridge carried the Newcastle - Carlisle railway across the Tyne between Scotswood and Blaydon. The bridge was taken out of railway use in 1982 and Newcastle - Carlisle trains were re-routed via Dunston. The bridge is now used to carry utilities pipelines across the river.
