The mansion of Glandenys stands in the north-west corner of this square near the junction of the A485 and a minor road leading to Silian. A leading figure of twentieth century Welsh Nationalism, William Julian Cayo-Evans, founder of the Byddin Rhyddid Cymru (Free Wales Army), a paramilitary organisation active during the 1960s, was born here on the 22nd April, 1937.
