When the first Ordnance Survey Six-Inch map of the area was published in 1865, the Seaton Burn at this point, was crossed via a ford. A bridge, also known as Seghill Bridge, which carried the, "Highway leading from Morpeth to Seghill" across the burn stood a few score yards to the west of this point. By the time of the publication of the second Ordnance Survey Six-Inch map in 1897, this bridge had been constructed and the line of the road ahead established in its present position. The road is known as Mill Lane and these days carries little motor traffic. For a selection of detailed free to download walking routes in the area visit www.northtynesidewalks.co.uk
