This large hotel occupied a prominent position in the town centre overlooking the cenotaph. The hotel dates from 1859 with enlargements in 1865 and 1870. For many years it was known as the Prospect Hotel, finally changing its name in 1988 to the Imperial, but this name change proved to be short lived as the hotel is now known as the Yorkshire.
