The pub has an unusual name, recognition of the fact that the building, dated 1822-23, was originally St Martin's Lodge, the home of Thomas Harrison, an architect who graced the city with many impressive buildings. Grade II listed. "From here he could contemplate his Greek castle and see his great bridge arising - but the ring road and HQ Building have put paid to any such thing".
