Wharfside is the first tram stop on the Trafford Park Line, after leaving the Eccles/MediaCityUK line at Pomona. The Wharfside stop is located on Trafford Wharf Road, next to the Manchester Ship Canal and close to Manchester United's Old Trafford football stadium. A map of the proposed network development, published in 2010 https://web.archive.org/web/20121115073720/http://www.metrolink.co.uk/futuremetrolink/Documents/network-map-with-new-extensions.pdf , showed the station’s name as “Manchester United”. It opened, along with the rest of the extension, on 22 March 2020.
