In summer, National Cycle Route 1 may be followed through the Black Isle and over the Cromarty Firth by the Cromarty to Nigg Ferry. Otherwise the route from Inverness to John o'Groats goes via Dingwall. This is the point where the choice must be made at Arpafeelie.
