The current Hat Works is in a former mill near Stockport town centre. The original hat museum was located in part of Battersby's works on the outskirts. Judging by the date, this was taken at the old site before the museum moved and re-opened in 2000. This shows part of the process of making a traditional felted hat but I can supply no more detail than that. I was really there to look at a steam engine but this unusually shaped device caught my eye.
