The 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day was marked in novel ways in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown. These Union flags appeared in the morning. No EU flags were seen: they might have sparked discord. A neighbour organised refreshments from teatime in her front garden. Social distancing was strictly observed at the outset but it relaxed over the course of the warm sunny evening and as glasses were refilled. It was pleasant to be with a dozen or so neighbours at the same time. As yet there is no WhatsApp or Zoom group for the street, as far as I know.
