Broadgreen Hospital has been largely rebuilt and refitted in the last 15 years becoming part of the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. The extended cardiothoracic unit was renamed The Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in 2008 at a ceremony led by Sir Ken Dodd and a new building was erected in the grounds. In 2018 the highly regarded Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital became the first specialist hospital within the United Kingdom to be awarded an 'Outstanding' rating by the Care Quality Commission.
