The Church of St John the Baptist is of Norman origin and originally built in the late 12th Century. It was mostly rebuilt in the 14th & 15th Centuries. The tower dates from the 14th Century. In September 1998 this was the venue for the wedding of the Spice Girls group member Melanie Brown (aka Mel B) and dancer Jimmy Gulzar. Many celebrities attended the wedding at the church and the reception next door at her then home the "Manor House". This is on the route of the London Green Belt Way.
