Footpath 31 provides a short-cut on the ascent of Ashley Road to the grand stands and the downs. Looking surprisingly well cut back, it perhaps has been cut over the winter in anticipation of some of the Derby crowds coming this way from the station — though that isn't going to happen this year. Largely confined, the footpath cuts across the grounds of Clear Height stables, a racing yard, half way along.
