The church was completed in 1853 to the design of Major Rohde Hawkins, as a chapel of ease in the parish of Bottisham (some 40 years before Lode became a separate parish). It is constructed of clunch, the local soft chalky stone, with a prominent pinnacled west bellcote and a mixture of Early English lancets and broader Decorated windows.
