Until the late 1970s the street ran straight along to the left of the cottages straight ahead carrying the A26 through the eastern part of Lewes. Since the building of the bypass and in particular the Cuilfail tunnel the street has been diverted to the west before joining Phoenix Causeway out of picture to the right. In the process a large number of houses were demolished. Taken at midday on Christmas Day in a very wet Lewes.
