Formerly The Rising Sun, dating from c.1700, but with possible medieval origins. Listed Grade II. The part to the right of the door has clearly been rebuilt in recent times, as a drawing in the RCHME volume (An Inventory of the Historical Monuments in the Town of Stamford. HMSO, London, 1977.) shows two windows above each other, and this is also given in the Listing description; at this time there would have been a low ceiling in this ground floor room .
