St. Nicholas's is a grade I listed building, 13th century, rebuilt or added to in 14th and 15th centuries, There are a some interesting features in the churchyard wall. Large ammonites are built in to the wall, one, possibly two, under the greenery to the left, and a larger one just to the left of the gate. This one has the centre carved into some sort of snake or lizard, apparently sometimes done in decorative work to represent early belief in the origin of ammonites.
