Erected in 1905, apparently at the behest of the Kings Norton and Northfield Urban District Council; a carved stone in the wall below the two windows records that the site was donated by Henry Adkins of Northfield, and the building was financed by Andrew Carnegie of Skibo Castle near Dornoch. A further plaque on the wall below the steps is a more recent memorial to Jane 'Ginny' Bunford (1895 - 1922) who lived in a cottage on the other side of the road, and at 7ft 11in was the tallest woman in the world.
