Only 3 of the original 6 platforms are now available for use. The station still has an hourly TransPennine service to and from Manchester Airport and less frequent services to Barton-on-Humber and Newark (via Lincoln), operated by Northern Trains and East Midlands Railway respectively. Through services to London were abandoned by British Rail in the early '90s, but various proposals have been made to reinstate them.
