This house at the south end of Saltwell Road in Gateshead, was the lodge for Ferndene House. It was the home of local industrialist Robert Stirling Newall in the mid 19th century. Many prominent people had large houses and estates here, until the spread of working class housing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The house itself was demolished in the 1920's.
