Plaque on old Library, Hertford

The plaque describes how an oak tree was planted opposite this spot to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. The Mayor at this time, Alexander Peter McMullen, was presumably a member of the family that owned and ran McMullen's Brewery, a major local employer.
