The memorial names two men and the death penny of each is located at the top and bottom of the memorial. The top penny was issued for George Henry Cooper who was a deckhand on the trawler "James Sacker" which was under the command of the Royal Naval Reserves and was lost at sea on the 25th September 1917 through enemy action, He was only 19 years of age. The lower penny was issued for Alfred Sidney Rogers, R.N. who was serving on H.M.S. Cressy when she was torpedoed off the Dutch coast on September 22nd 1914. He was 28 years of age and lived in Beccles. "For them no bell tolled. O'er them no service held; While at duty they were called. No Chance to say "Farewell".
