New housing in Taylors Square

At The Ridings. The Ridings is an extensive housing development > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4309694 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4309722 to the west of The Street in Poringland. This location commemorates three Poringland soldiers, all named Taylor: Private Ralph Taylor served with the 2nd Battalion Suffolk Regiment and was killed in action in France/Flanders on 10 May 1917. He was born in Poringland and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France, and also on the Poringland war memorial. Geoffrey Henry Taylor was a shoeing smith in the Royal Field Artillery, attached to the 180th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. He died on 21 October 1917, aged 28, in Salonika and is buried at the Lahana (Greek) Military Cemetery. Born in Poringland, he is commemorated on the Poringland war memorial. Corporal Guy Ralph Taylor served with the 22 Fortress Company, Royal Engineers. He died of dysentery and Beriberi as a prisoner of war in Japanese hands on 17 October 1942, aged 23, and is buried at the Yokohama (Japan) War Cemetery, British Section K.C.11. Corporal Taylor was from Framingham Pigot and is commemorated on the Poringham war memorial.
