High Leigh was built in 1853, and in 1871, Robert Barclay, a member of the famous banking dynasty and a committed Christian, bought the property. After his death in 1921, it became a Christian conference centre. Now it is one of three run by the Christian Conference Trust, the others being The Hayes at Swanwick, SK4152 refers, and Belsey Bridge at Ditchingham, TM3392 refers.
