Medieval in origin (and missing the cross-head, clearly), this tapered shaft on a set of worn steps marks the traditional centre of England, and was Grade II listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101076746-the-village-cross-meriden#.XaM3dOhKjIU & https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1076746 in 1961. It's also a Scheduled (Ancient) Monument in its own right https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1017814
