Harthill, South Yorkshire The view north-west from Crow Wood near Harthill, with Oaklands Farm in the foreground. On the distant horizon can be seen two distinctive Yorkshire landmarks. As the crow flies, these are the 115-foot (35m) tower of Keppel’s Column, approximately 11¼ miles away at Scholes near Rotherham, and the Emley Moor TV mast, approximately 26½ miles away near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. At 1,084 feet (330.4 m), Emley Moor TV mast is the tallest freestanding structure in the United Kingdom and 24th tallest tower in the world.
