Former railway bridge over Union Canal

Now carrying a footpath and pipes, this was for the contractor's railway to Redford Barracks when they were being built. It ran from the sidings east of Slateford station. It must have been in operation from about 1906 to around 1915. Some accounts suggest there was a thought to make it a permanent military link, but even if that was done for the rest of the Great War, it was soon taken up and largely built over.
