These five houses in New Road (numbers 3, 5, 7, 9, 11) were built as a block in the early 19th century. The block has flanking Doric pilasters and an overall entablature. All five have had the ground floor converted into shops. Granted a market charter in 1227, the town at one time had 29 inns and alehouses of which several survive. The town is rich in historic buildings with over 150 listed.
