Originally built as single storey estate cottages in the 18th century, they were improved by the Baillies of Culter Allers in 1885. (from 'Village Trails in Clydesdale & Tweeddale' by Rosemary Turpie and Ian Gilchrist, Quothquan Trails 2015).
