This was the first London style housing with gardens to the front to be built in Newcastle. Completed in 1770 to a design by the architect William Newton. There used to be a public toilet block where the steps are now, and the area had gone to seed a bit, but it has all been restored in the last few years. Of course, the view here is going to be dominated in future by the huge tower block going up in the background. This is Hadrian Tower, an apartment block due for completion in 2020.
