The business of TCR King was opened in 1850 by Thomas Charles Rackham King at premises on Elm Hill and Tombland, from whence the business moved to Prince of Wales Road in 1864. The company became the manufacturers of William Shalder's 'Fountain Pump' which had been patented in the 1820s. In 1903, shortly after TCR King's death, the company was placed in voluntary liquidation and its premises were purchased by the local furnishers Wallace King several years later.
